WHAT TO EXPECT?

Apart from its natural beauty, the traditional Tahitian wedding ceremony is one of the ingenuities of the island that seduces couples to get married there. The rites and vows are presided by a local priest on the beach or at the resort where the couple is staying. Priest assistants will knock on the bride and groom’s room to dress up the couple in white pareu or colorful wraps and adorn them with flower crowns and leis. The wedding ceremony includes customary rites, dancing and a lot of music. After the ceremony, the couple will be wrapped in a Tifaifai or a Tahitian quilt to symbolize their union. A traditional Tahitian feast will follow afterwards. The ceremony can be customized to suit the bride and groom’s preferences. It can either be a private ceremony with just the couple, the priest and a few witnesses. Or it can be elaborate with groups of dancers and musicians to liven up the wedding party.

In Tahiti, wedding venue choices are endless. You can arrange to get married in a secluded beach, a local village or on the numerous luxurious resorts located within the island. Wedding packages can also be availed of if the couple intends to have a more organized and memorable big day.
